Pendle Celebrates 5th Summer of Free Tai Chi in Victoria Park, Nelson

16 July 2019

This annual free event is held on four Tuesdays in the summer and is open to all ages and abilities. The opening ceremony is on 30th July at 1pm with the Mayor and Mayoress of Pendle Councilor Ken Hartley and Ms Jayne Mills officiating and followed by a traditional tai chi blessing from 2 Chinese Lions.

Burnley based tai chi instructors, Helena Kean and David Pelling from Lighthouse Tai Chi, will lead the follow along tai chi sessions from 1.30pm to 2.30pm, inviting people to do as much or as little as they wish.

Helena says “Anyone and everyone is welcome to join us and try Tai Chi, from complete beginners wanting to give it a go, to people with any level of experience, who’d like the opportunity to do their tai chi in the lovely surroundings of the park. Tai chi is ideally to be done outdoors to get the extra benefits of being in nature. Last year over 140 people attended the opening event and we have plenty of room for more”

The other sessions will be held on Tuesday 6th, 13th and 20th August at 1.30 – 2.30pm. Registration opens at 1pm at the Up & Active welcome desk and the sessions are held on the old bowling green behind the Pavilion Café. There is free parking on site and the Café will be open to support the event, with hot and cold drinks and ice creams for sale and access to facilities for those taking part. Children are also welcome with a participating responsible adult. Everyone attending can either register on the day or in advance with Up & Active on 01282 661226.
