Aqua Tai Chi comes to Barnoldswick

10 April 2017

East Lancashire based Lighthouse Tai Chi, came up with the idea of doing tai chi in shallow, warm water after finding that students with mobility problems or rehabilitating after injury or surgery, found standing for an hour, in a regular tai chi class too strenuous.

The aqua programme has been designed by Lighthouse Tai Chi instructors Helena and David, who are fully qualified tai chi and aqua exercise instructors, to build up the student to a tai chi class on land, but it’s also great fun and very relaxing. The joints are supported in the water so movement is easier, there are less aches and pains afterwards.

Instructor David Pelling says ‘We want to get people mobile and having fun.' David has been running successful aqua classes at Whitworth Pool and Ramsbottom Pool for 5 years. ‘We’ve seen tremendous progress in students’ ability and confidence. Many have also started swimming regularly after not being in a pool for years.’

The new classes will be on every Friday at West Craven Sports Centre from 11.30am to 12.15pm beginning with a free taster session on Friday 5th May.
