Seated Tai Chi Starts in Accrington

13 September 2017

Lighthouse Tai Chi is opening a new weekly seated tai chi class in Accrington at HVCRC in the Old St James’ Sunday School, on Cannon Street in the town centre. On Thursday 14th September at 2.15pm there will be a free launch event with a taster session and preview for anyone interested in attending, referring people or groups wishing to recommend the session to their members.

The class provided by HVCRC, will be held weekly on Thursdays at 2.15pm for 45mins and will cost £3.50. It will be taught by Helena Kean and fellow instructor David Pelling, who are professional, full time tai chi instructors with many years of experience and currently teach over 300 people every week in 19 sessions across East Lancashire.

Helena says: “We can now offer people who need to be seated the chance to learn real tai chi and qigong and gain the health benefits from this ancient Chinese martial art and Traditional Chinese Medicine healing exercise. Unlike other seated exercise sessions, we can offer the opportunity for people to progress to a standing class if they wish, at our beginners’ session at 1pm and we provide learning resources to encourage home practice.”

The new Lighthouse Tai Chi seated programme will also be showcased at the East Lancashire Hospital Trust AGM Event at Blackburn Cathedral on 20th September. It has attracted interest from Falls Prevent Teams and Physios in addition to Parkinsons UK, Diabetes groups, Fibromyalgia groups and local MS Societies.

Co-Centre Manager at HVCRC Emma Cucknell, who has organized the session, says “this class is open to anyone; with the focus on gaining the health benefits of tai chi and not on people’s health specific conditions. Helena & Dave are friendly, supportive and experienced at helping and motivating people to learn tai chi and embrace a healthier lifestyle.”

Up & Active and Carers Link members are offered their first session free.
