Summer Tai Chi in the Park Event returns to Nelson for a 3rd Year
Lighthouse Tai Chi is bringing free tai chi to Victoria Park in Nelson for a 3rd year this August. Pendle residents and visitors are invited to try health boosting tai chi every Tuesday 1.30 – 2.30pm for 4 weeks starting on the 1st of August. If you are a beginner or have experience you will be able to join in.
The sessions will be held on the bowling green behind the café if the weather is fine, or under the bandstand if it rains. The Pavilion Café will be opening to support the event, with refreshments for sale and access to facilities for those taking part. Children are also welcome with a participating responsible adult.
This free event will be officially opened on August 1st at 1.15pm by the Mayor and Mayoress of Pendle Councillor David Whalley and Mrs Barbara Whalley. It is sponsored by the Marsden Building Society, Pendle Borough Council Parks, Lancashire County Council and Up & Active
Lighthouse Tai Chi owner and instructor David said: “Last summer over 35 people took part each week, building on the success of our first event in 2015. People of all ages and abilities and from all communities joined in. We even had a group of tourists visiting from Beijing. Whole families came along to try and enjoy some healthy outdoor activity. Everyone is welcome to join us and to do as much or as little as they wish”
With fellow instructor Helena, David teaches 19 weekly tai chi sessions across East Lancashire. 6 weekly sessions are provided for Pendle Leisure in Colne, Barnoldswick and Nelson. “We regularly teach over 250 people per week but the event in the park helps us to reach out into the community to allow people to try tai chi more easily. Local primary school pupils who have participated in our schools programme also bring their family and friends to try it.”
