Mike

Mike first joined one of our volunteer-led walks when a support worker recommended them to him to help with his anxiety and depression.  Before joining the walks he struggled to get out of the house, but walking with an organised group helped him to get out more.  Initially, he was worried that he wouldn’t be able to manage the longer walks, but the volunteer walk leaders encouraged him to give them a go as his fitness levels increased.

As a regular walker, Mike was invited to train as a volunteer walk leader and he now leads the Pendle Nordic Walk every Thursday.  Mike enjoys Nordic Walking as it’s a bit different to the other walks and he also enjoys the opportunity to plan his own routes.

Mike also completed a Couch 2 5k with Up and Active and now runs up to 10k regularly.  He also now works part-time, and although he is still on medication for his anxiety and depression, he knows that the regular exercise he does helps to keep him fit and healthy both physically and mentally.
