The aim of the Up and Active Schools programme is to give pupils and their parents simple and effective practical advice on how to eat healthily and become more active, to maintain optimum health in childhood and avoid adult ill health. The Up and Active team will be working in partnership with each of the Schools Games Organisers across East Lancashire.
The programme makes specific links to key stage 2 national curriculum subjects with lesson plans complimenting taught subjects such as PE, science and PSHE. These lesson plans are designed to be fun, interactive and innovative to encourage motivation, raise self-esteem and increase confidence.
Although the programme is a school based educational intervention it also includes a family programme. It is designed to be run directly within local schools and can be delivered during school time, after school or a combination of both. The various packages include:-
Six week Up and Active programme during curriculum time with follow up sessions at week 12 and week 24.
Six week Up and Active After schools programme with follow up sessions at week 12 and week 24.
Three week Up and Active programme during curriculum time and three week Up and Active After School programme. Follow up sessions at week 12 and week 24.

The Up and Active Schools programme adopts an inclusive approach with key learning elements such as guidance on nutritional information, how to read food labels, a healthy lunchbox, getting active using the Change4life ‘get going’ wrist band, non-competitive and creative ways to bring important health messages to life and encourage children to make more informed choices around their food and activity habits.
